Since its foundation, Daugavpils Olympic Center has provided significant support in promoting tens of Daugavpils sportsmen in their preparation for the highest level competitions, including World, European and Latvian Championships and Olympic Games. Among them are such well-known sportsmen as:

Daugavpils triathlonist Anatoliy Levsha has achieved grandiose results in his sports career. He has become tripple world champion in double triathlon, and won gold in 2009 Latvian Championship in "half ironmen" distance.
Daugavpils biathlonist Oleg Malyuhin, who is the perminent participant of World and European championships and Olympic Games, in 2002 became European Champion in biathlon. At present Oleg is preparing for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Today Daugavpils can be proud not only of the old generation sportsmen, but of young perspective sportsmen in many disciplines.
In 2008 Daugavpils junior sportsmen showed high results in international competitions. Firstly, these are wrestlers. Anastasiya Grigoryeva has become European Junior champion in wrestling. In 2009 she
performed the silver result in European Junior Championship in Lithuania and won silver in the World Junior Championship in Turkey.
Daugavpils weightlifters produced high performance in their discipline. In 2008 the talented weightlifter Artyom Zherebkov, coached by his father Alexander Zherebkov (the Olympian in weightlifting), won the golden medal in European U17 Championship in 50kg weight category. In 2009 Artyom won bronze in Cadet European Championship, which was held in Israel.
The athlete Dmitriy Yurkevich is a multi times Latvian champion. Today Dmitriy Yurkevich is the only Daugavpils athlete, who has been showing persistent performance. In 2008 this talented sprinter has performed the olympic "B" normative in 800m sprint, as well as won gold in "B" group European Cup. In february,2009 in "GE Galan” competitions in Sweden, he was 1st in "B" finalrun in his favourite 800m distance sprint with the new personal record. But in 2009 in International Athletics Competitions in Germany, Dessau, Dmitriy Yurkevich performed the new Latvian record in 1 500m distance sprint (3:39:69). It is interesting to note that the previous State record, which was achieved by another Daugavpils athlete Erik Barkovskiy, has not been broken since 1985 (3:40:68).

(silver in European Wrestling Championship) and Alexander Pomyalov (bronze in European Wrestling Championship).
Daugavpils history is closely connected with sports history , where each city resident can choose his own favourite kind of sport and achieve there his best.
